Dale Bates Tournament
Every year Lane hosts the Dale Bates Tournament in honor of coach Bates who served as the men's basketball coach at Lane Community College for 18 years, and retired following the 1990-91 season. At Lane his teams compiled a record of 306-204; his overall college record is 416-262 over 30 years. Dale's Lane teams were OCCAA champions four times (1975, '76, '78, and '83), and he was recognized as coach of the year following the 1975, '76, and '83 seasons. Dale distinguished himself at Lane Community College with leadership roles in OAPHER, as director of Athletics, and a wide variety of NWAACC basketball committee roles. In 1991 Dale was inducted into the NWAACC Hall of Fame.
