SPOKANE — Sophomores Christina Grizzel-Hardie and Amber Williams each won an event, and freshman Sam Berryman continued to be a scoring machine for the Lane women after the first day of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges track and field meet on Monday.

Grizzel-Hardie won the javelin with a throw of 147 feet and Williams led five Titans among the top six finishers in the pole vault with a clearance of 11-7 1/4 as Lane built a 103 1/2 to 79 lead over Spokane after eight events.

Much of the Titans’ advantage was built by the versatile Berryman, who’d already won the NWAACC heptathlon and added seconds in the high jump (5-3 1/4) and long jump (17-11) to go with her fourth place in the pole vault (10-11 1/2).

Grizzel-Hardie also placed third in the shot put (40-8 1/4), and in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, freshmen Rita Krantz (12 minutes, 12.56 seconds) and Shey Haack (12:38.63) finished second and third, respectively.

On the men’s side, Lane sophomore Robby Fegles won the pole vault (15-6 1/2) and sophomore Kevin Godfrey placed third (14-6 3/4) as the Titans stood third after seven events with 57 points. Spokane leads with 118, and Clackamas is second with 63.

Godfrey, the NWAACC decathlon champion, also was fourth in the long jump (21-10), and freshman Miles Walk was third in the discus throw (143-9) and fourth in the hammer throw (142-10).

The meet concludes today.
