	Last year, LCC's baseball squad had 19 freshman and relatively low expectations. This season, with 17 sophomores, the Titans have their eyes set on an NWAACC Southern region championship.
	
	But success in the always-competitive Southern region won't come easy. Last season's Southern region champion Mt. Hood Community College and runner-up Linn-Benton Community College will pose a huge challenge for LCC's postseason aspirations.

	Former Sheldon star Chris Vitus has transferred to Lane Community College after turning down the opportunity to play pro baseball for the second year in a row.
	
	Vitus was drafted in the 48th round of the major-league draft in June by Anaheim, but turned down the Angels for the second year in a row. Anaheim drafted Vitus in the 49th round of the 2007 draft out of Sheldon.

	Former Lane Community College coach Donny Harrel has been hired by Seattle University as head baseball coach to restart the program after two decades.
	
	Harrel, who served as an assistant at Washington the past four years, will begin the program in the 2009-10 season. The school is in the reclassification process toward NCAA Division I status.
