LCC sweeps region cross country titles

OREGON CITY - Leah Twombly won the women's 5,000-meter race, and the Lane Community College cross country teams swept the team titles at the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges Southern Region Championships Saturday at Clackamas.

The Lane women had five runners finish in the top 10 to win with 29 points. Clackamas was second with 66 points.

Led by the 2-3 finish of Travis Stevens and Lukas Fenley, the Titan men won with 37 points.

Twombly, a Siuslaw High School graduate, finished in 18 minutes, 46 seconds to beat Mount Hood's Sheryl Page by 10 seconds.

Mikayla Bradbury was fifth and Sheldon grad Katherine Barnhart was sixth to for Lane. Annie Hayward (ninth) and Andrea Gruber (10th) rounded out the scoring for the Titans .

Lane's Travis Floeck was named the region's women's coach of the year.

Matt Moncur of Clark won the men's 8,000 in 26:09. Stevens, a Siuslaw product, was second in 26:18, followed closely by Fenley, a Thurston grad, who finished in 26:21.

Joey Nelson was eighth and Alex Jones was 10th and Matt Hedges was 14th for the Titans .

Clark was second in the men's race with 45 points and Clackamas had 66.

The NWAACC Championships are scheduled for Nov. 8 in Battle Ground, Wash.
