The Lane Community College women’s basketball team mined the talent at local high schools to fill out its recruiting class this year.

The eight-player class, announced Friday by Titans coach Greg Sheley, is headlined by Kristen Huff, a 6-foot-2, second-team all-state post from North Eugene High School who averaged 14.5 points to help the Highlanders get to the Class 5A state championship game last March.

Point guard Susan Smith, a four-year starter at Churchill and second-team all-MWL this season, will challenge for a starting role next fall.

Cottage Grove’s first-team all-state forward Kaitlyn Kronberger was a two-time Sky-Em player of the year for the Lions, who advanced to the Class 4A championship game this past season.

Joining them will be 6-foot Sheldon forward Andrea Anderson, who earned first-team all-Southwest Conference honors in 2009; North Eugene’s MaKenzie Ficek, a 5-7 first-team all-league guard; Alyssa Garner, an honorable-mention all-league guard for Class 5A state champion Willamette; Churchill guard Alexa Moore, and point guard Brittany May from West Linn.

Lane recently won its third NWAACC championship in the past four seasons. They lost two starters and two other players from that team.
