Titans Rebound for Big Road Win

Lane Lady Titans after suffering their first loss of the season last Saturday rebounded in a big way, by bringing down 70 rebounds, beating the Umpqua CC Riverhawks 75-53.  Umpqua came into the contest as the leading rebounding team in the NWAACC but were demolished on the boards by the hustling Titans led by sophomore Megan Shields (Sherwood, OR.) 15 boards.

Wednesday night's matchup started as a seesaw affair with teams trading buckets or trading misses as both teams shot only 27% from the field in the first half.  With six minutes to go in the half, a couple of steals and layups gave the Titans some separation, then sophomore Kersey Wilcox (Prineville, OR.) finished the half with a clear out layup which gave the Lady Titans a 42-28 halftime lead.

The shooting continued to be dismal in the second half as the Titans shot only 21% from the field and Umpqua 19% but what the Titans lacked in accuracy they made up for in volume hoisting a season high 92 shot attempts for the game.

Wilcox and Shields led the Titans in scoring with 20 and 16 respectively.  Shields, in her best free throw performance of her career, made 12-for-14 from the line.  Wilcox also filled the stat sheet with 7 rebounds, team high 4 assists and 4 steals.  Freshman Nicole Hannifan (Milwaukee, OR.) had 9 points including her first two three-pt shots of the season.  Others joining the rebounding parade in the record performance were Danielle Schmidt (Hillsboro, OR.) with 7 caroms, Simone Thompson (Gardena, CA.) and Jordan Wilcox (Prineville, OR.) had 6 rebounds each.

The Titans (19-1, 5-1 South region) end the first half of the league season this Saturday with a 2:00pm home game with the visiting Portland CC Panthers.
